What is the Points and Rewards Program in Driftscape?
The Points & Rewards program helps you create engaging and interactive experiences for your visitors by incentivizing exploration. This tool allows you to offer points for visiting specific locations, answering trivia questions and more—points that can be redeemed for rewards you define.
With Points & Rewards, you can:
Encourage Exploration: Motivate visitors to discover local attractions, businesses, or hidden gems.
Build Loyalty: Reward repeat visits and participation with exclusive prizes or discounts.
Create Memorable Experiences: Add a gamified, interactive element to your destination to make every visit special.
Designed for BIAs, tourism districts, and similar organizations, the Points & Rewards program is easy to set up and fully customizable. Whether you're promoting a new walking tour, driving traffic to local businesses, or enhancing a festival experience, this feature makes it simple to attract and engage your audience while supporting your community.
Let your visitors collect points, unlock rewards, and enjoy everything your destination has to offer. Are points & rewards not available in your current plan? Contact sales@driftscape.com to get started with points and rewards today!
Examples of Use Cases for the Points and Rewards Program
Use Case 1: Encourage Broad Exploration
Want to incentivize your visitors to explore even more? Add collectible points to all of your locations, and motivate your visitors to see it all! Simply apply collectible points to all of your POIs in Driftscape, so that the more your visitors see, the more they earn!
Use Case 2: Enhanced Walking Tours
Looking to add even more reason for visitors to take one of your walking tours? The Points & Rewards program is a great way to engage visitors! Create offers that reward visitors with points for checking in at each stop. Add a layer of excitement by providing a reward for completing the entire tour. Visitors can redeem their points for local keepsakes or discounts at nearby shops, turning your walking tour into an interactive and rewarding experience.
Use Case 3: Local Business Promotion
Want to drive traffic to your local businesses? Use Points & Rewards to incentivize visitors to explore your district. Offer points for checking in at participating stores, and let visitors redeem those points for exclusive discounts or free items. This is a great way to encourage visitors to discover and support your local businesses while creating lasting connections with your community.
Use Case 4: Festival Gamification
Hosting a festival or community event? Make it interactive with the Points & Rewards program! Visitors can collect points by checking in at event booths, answering trivia questions, or participating in scavenger hunts. These points can then be redeemed for festival merchandise or food vouchers. Adding this gamified layer to your event makes it more engaging and memorable for attendees.
Get Started: Implementing Points and Rewards
Step 1: Configure Points & Rewards for your Organization
Access the CMS: Log in to the Driftscape CMS.
Configure Organization Properties:
Navigate to the organization’s properties by selecting the pencil icon next to the name of your organization.
Scroll down to the bottom of your Org Properties screen to configure your Points & Rewards System (P&R):
Email for Internal Notifications: Driftscape will send automated reward redemption emails to this address
Email for Visitor Communication: This email will be displayed to your visitors for inquiries when they redeem a reward
Website: This website will be displayed to your visitors for inquiries when they redeem a reward. It can be a link to your homepage, or a specific webpage for points and rewards, if you have one.
Collectible Points: If you would like to apply collectible points to all of your POIs within Driftscape (including tour stops) you can do that here. You can come back to this after you have created collectible points. Alternatively, you can assign collectible points at the individual POI level, or on sub-layers. See Step 3 Assign Collectible Points to all your POIs.
Step 2: Define Collectible Points
Navigate to the Points & Rewards Menu
From the top menu, navigate to “Org Content”
Create Collectible Points:
Click the “Add Collectible Points” button, directly above the table of available offers
Enter the following essential details about your Collectible Points:
Collectible Points Title: Short title/description of the collectible points for list views. For example “Driftscapeville BIA Points”
Number of Points: Enter the number of collectible points
Collectible only when on location?: If selected, the user must be located at the POI location to collect points
You can also control the following optional parameters:
Maximum Distance: If the points are collectible only when on location, this is the maximum distance, in meters, from the POI location, that the user will be considered “on location”. If left blank, the default is 100 meters / 330 ft. We recommend using this default setting. But, you may consider increasing this if the POI location is a large area, like a park.
Minimum Accuracy: We do not recommend that you set a minimum accuracy.
Start Date: First day that points can be collected. Leave blank to make these collectible points effective immediately.
End Date: Last day that points can be collected. Leave blank to make these collectible points always available.
Collection Frequency: Enter the number of days that must pass before a user can collect points again at the same location. Leave blank if points can only be collected once per user, per location (the default). Set to 0 to allow unlimited point collection per user.
Maximum Collections: Leave blank if there is no limit to the number of points that can be collected by all users. Enter the maximum number of times these points can be collected in total, by all users.
Password: If you wish to password-protect these points, enter the password here.
Password prompt: If you require a password to collect these points, enter a password prompt here. This could be a question only select visitors would be able to answer, or simply “What’s the password?”.
Step 3: Assigning Collectible Points to Points of Interest
Assign Collectible Points to all of your POIs
To assign collectible points to all of your POIs, navigate to the “Org Properties” page from the CMS main menu
Select the edit button beside the organization you wish to assign your collectible points to.
If you select your parent organization, collectible points will be applied to all POIs that belong to your parent organizations as well as all POIs that belong to your sub-layers
If you select one of your sub-layers collectible points will only be applied to POIs that belong to that sub-layer
Scroll down and use the “Points and Rewards System (P&R)” menu settings at the bottom of the page to assign collectible points to every POI in an organization
Then click 'update" to apply these changes.
This will apply the selected collectible points to every POI (and tour stop) in the organization. If you want to apply different collectible points to individual POIs follow the next direction instead.
Assign Collectible Points to Individual POIs
If you haven’t yet created the POI that you would like to apply collectible points to, do it now - See How To Add a Place for more information.
Once the point of interest is added to your organization, edit this point of interest by navigating to “Org Content” in the main menu.
Select the edit button beside the POI you wish to add collectible points to.
Scroll to the “Points & Rewards System (P&R)” item near the bottom of the Main Tab.
In this drop down menu, you will find all the collectible points you have created
Select the collectible points you want associated with this point of interest
If you have applied collectible points to all of your POIs, you can override and change the collectible points available at an individual POI here
Click update
Users will now be able to discover and collect these points when viewing the POI you selected. Similarly, you can override the offer for the all the POIs for a sub-layer as well.
Step 4: Create Rewards
Now that your visitors can collect points at your POIs, it’s time to add a reward.
From the main menu navigate to “Org Content”.
Use the button in the “Points & Rewards” column to navigate to the Points & Rewards Menu.
Click on the “Rewards” button to see all your current rewards, or an empty table if you have no rewards listed yet.
Click “Add Reward” directly above the table of rewards.
Enter the following essential details about your Reward:

You can also control the following option parameters for your reward:

Start Date: First day that the reward can be redeemed. Leave blank to make this reward effective immediately.
End Date: Last day that the reward can be redeemed. Leave blank to make this reward always available.

Expiry: Enter the number of days that a user has to collect the reward once they have redeemed it. Leave blank if there is no expiry based on the redemption date. This option can be useful for virtual rewards like a buy-one-get-one free campaign, where the reward screen has to be displayed at the merchant location for redemption.
Once all fields are filled out, click “add” at the bottom of the page
