Driftscape’s Offline Mode helps users explore your destination without the need of an internet connection. Want to save something for offline viewing? Here’s the steps to guide the app user on how to save POIs (Points of Interest - places, events and tours) that they wish to be able to see even when they are offline.
Getting Started
After launching the Driftscape app, ensure you are in Map (and not List) view mode. Narrow down the types of POIs (Places, Events or Tours) that you wish to have access to via the menu at the bottom. Zoom out in Map view enough to ensure you have ALL the POIs you want access to selected in a single frame.
There are now two different ways to put the desired POIs available for Offline viewing into your Offline Storage:
Select the ‘SAVE FOR OFFLINE’ button in top left corner.
Access the Settings menu by choosing the gear icon or 3-lines icon from top of the screen; within the pulldown menu that is then displayed, choose ‘Settings’; within the next pop-up menu, choose the ‘Save for Offline’ button
Regardless of which of the above two methods you use, a dialog box will now pop up. The user can now choose the ‘Save for offline now’ button to begin saving all the POIs currently displayed in Map view mode. A confirmation message will appear, to which the user can select ‘OK’
Upon completion of the Offline POI save, the user will be notified via another pop up message; choose ‘OK’ to acknowledge. Note that before being able to access the Offline POI information, the app must be closed and reopened.
Offline POI are stored permanently within the app. To clear this data, again access the ‘Save for offline’ screen using steps above but in this case choose the ‘Clear storage’ button.
Viewing saved POIs once offline
When there is no internet connection, you can open any saved POIs. They will display and function normally. The Category view and Settings dialog now work without an internet connection.
Note that some things do not work without an internet connection: News items, social media sharing, external links, videos associated with POIs.
Note that audio does work for offline stored POIs.
As well, internal deeplinks to POIs and Organizations will work properly in POI content, as will POI linking.
To activate offline mode, the user does have to close and reopen the Driftscape app (a dialog is presented when the app is launched notifying the user that they are in offline mode).
